Notes For Thanksgiving 2005...
Okay, a little background before you read this and say, okay, she’s talking to herself. Ohh-kay. No, I have started the tradition of writing myself a note after the holiday each year, to read the next year, reminding me of what worked and what didn’t. That way I don’t repeat the same mistakes. (Like not giving the turkey enough time in the oven, so everything else ends up being late.) So, anyway, this is my note to myself from last year. Aw, can’t you just feel the nostalgia?
--If doing another 14 pound turkey, AND entertaining, PLEASE get it in the oven EARLY!!! Like, 7:00 if possible! Maybe clean and prep it the night before? And start thawing a week in advance!!!
--Less, or smaller, side dishes. With the freezer, put half of the recipes up for later!
--Just skip the Broccoli-Rice Casserole from now on, unless you find an outstanding recipe for it.
--The disposable pans were WONDERFUL!!! Use them next year, too! Less cleaning is GOOD!
--DO NOT get ANY gourds or pumpkins from Wal-Mart anymore! Corn is okay, but everything else rotted this year WEEKS before Thanksgiving. What a waste of money! Just buy the styrofoam and ceramic pumpkins and gourds. That way you get more every year!
--If you decide you want real plates, check Linens ‘N’ Things. They had cute stuff in 2004!
--Seriously, think about having a smaller Thanksgiving in 2005. Thanksgiving 2004 was fun, but it got really stressful cooking, with everyone wanting to be in the kitchen “helping”. (Read: getting in my damn way!!!) People don’t understand the concept of me knowing that they’re there, and I’ll ASK for help when I need it. If they’re standing in the way, they’re not helping. (Yeah, I was a little bitter about this.)
